When you open a person's verification results, each step shows a list of validations - the checks carried out on the evidence they submitted. A green tick means the validation passed; a red tick means it failed.
Identity verification
Digital ID
Required details retrieved | All the information needed was successfully returned by the identity provider. |
Digital ID validated | The Digital ID session completed successfully with the provider. |
eVisa validated with GOV.UK | The share code provided was checked against GOV.UK and a valid eVisa record was found. |
Required fields extracted | All the information needed from the eVisa record could be successfully read. |
eVisa in date | The eVisa's valid-from date has been reached, meaning it is currently active. |
eVisa not expired | The eVisa's expiry date has not passed. |
Has recent transactions | The connected bank account shows recent transaction activity, confirming it is active. |
Non-zero balance | The account has a balance above zero. This flags accounts that may be dormant or empty. |
Photo ID
Face matches document | The selfie taken during verification was compared to the photo on the submitted document. A pass means the two images are biometrically consistent. |

Date of birth consistent | The date of birth on the document matches the date of birth the person provided. |

Referee confirmed name / date of birth / photo | The referee reviewed the person's details during their check and confirmed they are correct. |
Referee proved their identity | The referee completed their own photo ID check as part of the vouching process. |
Referee proved their address | The referee completed their own address document check as part of the vouching process. |
Referee looks different from user | The referee's selfie was compared to the applicant's to confirm they are two different people. |

What does it mean if a validation has failed?
A red tick means that particular check did not pass. This does not automatically mean the verification has been rejected - some validations carry more weight than others, and the overall outcome depends on the combination of results.
You will only see failed validations when a verification has been sent for processing or is locked out. For guidance on what to do next, see Understanding verification results and Understanding verification status.
