Accept unfamiliar photo ID

Vouchsafe can check any kind of photo ID, even if it's a document type we haven't seen before.

If your users often upload rare or international documents, this setting gives them the best chance of being verified.

You’ll still stay in control, with each case routed to you for review.

Vouchsafe will never automatically verify someone who uses unfamiliar photo ID. The verification will be sent to you for review, and you will make the final call.

What is the benefit?

You avoid needing to handle the case manually or offline, and still benefit from Vouchsafe's biometric security, background checks and other timesaving features.

The user still has a chance at getting verified, rather than being turned away entirely.

This works well with IDs like:

How do I turn it on?

  1. As a team admin, go to Flows and pick the relevant one

  2. Go to a Photo ID step and check Accept unfamiliar photo ID

  3. Publish your changes

What is checked?

Vouchsafe still performs basic quality checks and validation:

  • We make sure that what is shown appears to be a genuine ID card with readable text

  • There is a visible photo on the card that matches the user

  • We can extract a name and date of birth for the user

You will review the original artefact and make sure it's a kind of photo ID you're able to accept.

Any other checks that are part of the flow will be unaffected.
