Can Vouchsafe meet the Companies House identity verification standard?

Yes, Vouchsafe is a certified IDSP that can be used to meet the Companies House identity verification standard.

What is the standard for?

All directors listed on Companies House must now have their identity verified, either directly with GOV.UK One Login, or via an authorised corporate service provider (ACSP), normally an accountant.

Companies house published the standard to enforce common requirements, whether a director is verified directly or through an ACSP.

How can I set up a compliant verification flow?

"Option one" in the standard can be met with:

  • a photo ID check from an allowed list of documents

  • plus a biometric video selfie to prevent impersonation

To make one, go to Flows, Create a new flow, Start from scratch and Publish.

Always check that the documents you are accepting align with those listed in the standard.

How much does it cost?

A simple photo ID and video selfie is two tokens, or £1.98 on our pay as you go plan.

What if a director doesn't have normal photo ID?

If a director has a regular non-expired passport or a UK driving licence, you can verify them with option one.

For those without, you can use "option two", which requires two of a wider range of documentation.

You can set up a second verification flow that uses both our photo ID and supporting document features to collect what you need.

How long can I keep records for?

The standard requires records to be kept for seven years from the date of verification.

Vouchsafe is a GDPR compliant platform that can be used to safely store these records for that length of time.

You can also produce a downloadable PDF report to store offline in other tools if you need.
