Using a referee lets you offer vouching as a way for users to prove their identity when they don't have access to traditional forms of identification.
A referee is a trusted person who confirms who they are - and depending on how you configure it, may need to verify their own identity too. When a referee is involved, Vouchsafe checks their identity too.
Referees canโt use a referee of their own. Vouchsafe handles all communication with referees
How it works
To enable it, open the Identity verification block in your flow builder and turn on the Accept a referee toggle.
What relationship types can I accept?
Type | Description |
Personal | The referee has a personal relationship with the person being verified |
Professional | The referee has a professional relationship with the person being verified. You can restrict which referee email domains are accepted. |
How do I accepted specific referee domains?
If you select Professional, a custom domains field appears. Enter the email domains you want to accept (for example, company.com). Only referees with a matching email address will be able to complete the vouch.
This is useful when you want to limit vouching to colleagues within a specific organisation.
How long must a referee have known the person?
You can set a minimum time the referee must have known the person, in years. This can be set to 0 if no minimum applies.
What verification strength should I require from referees?
Verification strength controls how thoroughly a personal referee must be verified before their vouch counts.
Strength | What the referee must do |
Identity verification | Prove their own identity in order to vouch |
Identity + address verification | Prove their own identity and address in order to vouch |
