You may be asked to take a short video selfie as part of verifying your identity, whether you’re using Vouchsafe yourself or confirming someone else’s identity.

  • Use a place with good lighting; not too dark or too bright

  • Avoid strong light behind you (like a window)

  • Hold your device in front of your face, so it nearly fills the oval

  • Keep still once the scan begins

  • Turn up your screen brightness to full

You may want to ask a friend to help you.

Why am I asked for a video selfie?

A video selfie helps us:

  • Make sure you’re a real person

  • Check you match the person shown on your photo ID

  • Follow regulations set by the organisation you're verifying with

How have Vouchsafe's video selfies been tested?

Our biometric features are continually tested by our own team, our suppliers, and independent third-party labs with a wide range of ages, genders and skin tones, to make sure that they are secure and fair.

What happens to the data?

A single still image will be captured from your video selfie and kept alongside your other verification data for the organisation verifying you. It will be retained according to their rules.

Vouchsafe does not use your data, including biometrics, to train AI models.
